| Sad times, then. Ganger have ganged
awa' for the last time. Happily, they went out on a high tonight
to an appreciative home audience. Natasha introduces the band
as "And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Ex-members".
We don't get the trawl through the back catalogue as you might
have expected - there's no onstage appearance from Craig B or
any erstwhile sax players, which you might expect from more 'rock'
outfits. Indeed, they do a new song, 'Distance' which sees their
"new direction as a guitar band" (as opposed to a drum
band, presumably). This does indeed see Stuart donning a guitar
but the sound is pretty much unmistakably still Ganger, perhaps
due to Natasha's ever-present bass. We do get 'What Happened
to The King' and democracy in action as Natasha offers the choice
between 'Canopy' and 'Upye' but gets little response, in contrast
to the applause that greets every number. Maybe the audience
are surprised at a post-kraut-rock band communicating with their
audience? |

| When Stuart re-adopts his chosen
instrument for the closing 'Capo', we get the frantic generation
of a wall of noise that you would expect from a band mixing the
emotion of their final gig proper with the determination to enjoy
themselves. The abiding memory will, appropriately, be the duelling
basses that became their trademark. |
Although long-standing drummer James'
emigration to the USA is behind the split, the rest of the band
apparently may continue to work together in some form. Tonight's
audience will hope they'll be back again, soon. |
