Saturday 17th May, Dunfermline Carnegie Hall: Idlewild / Foxface / The Scottish EnlightenmentIdlewild
Touted as one of Britain's best live bands, Idlewild have enduring appeal. Such is their importance on the national music scene they were invited to play at the opening of the Scottish parliament in Edinburgh in the summer of 1999.Their poetic lyrics and harmony coupled with distorted pop have quashed any views that Idlewild were no more than a night out for teenage indie rockers. 'The Remote Part' went along way to establishing Idlewild as one of the UK's most clever, tuneful and interesting rock bands. The album went gold in the UK. Interest in Idlewild the world over increased as a result. Roddy Woomble spend 2006 helping to organise the 'Ballads of the Book' project, a collaboration between some of Scotland's top poets/writers/singers. Idllewild are the biggest band yet to play tigerfest and we are delighted to have the opportunity to bring them at long last to Dunfermline. www.idlewild.co.uk Foxface
Foxface are a three-piece band based in Glasgow, Scotland. They released a self-funded debut 7” Monster Seas/Across To Texa in April 2006, contributed a track to Chemikal Underground Records’ critically applauded 'Ballads Of The Book' compilation earlier this year, and have now released their debut album 'This Is What Makes Us' for Gargleblast Records. Recently the band has embarked on a tour supporting Idlewild’s Roddy Woomble, as well as appearing at the Isle of Skye, Greenman, Indian Summer and Belladrum Festivals. Their live performances have become legendary in Scotland, a menagerie of eclectic instrumentation and eccentric costume giving them an air of the otherworldly, one where folk heritage blends with modern rock and roll.www.foxfacemusic.com The Scottish Enlightenment peddles an unlikely concoction of Pavement-like sleepy-rock and the star-gazing guitar arias of the likes of Sigur Ros and Low that has seen them played on Radio 1, BBC 6Music and MTV. The band has been a part of the Dunfermline based Moojuice Records collective from the start, and with new recordings on the way, 2008 will see them creep out into the light.www.thescottishenlightenment.co.uk |
