Lord Cut-Glass
His mysteriously-named lordship is no other than former Delgados vocalist Alun Woodward. Following a couple of years of careful preparation he is ready to take to the stage once again with an all-star 9-piece band, premiering a debut album which will be released on Chemikal Underground in June. His previous live outings have been restricted to a couple of sporadic solo outings including at the launch of the Ballads of the Biok compilation, for which Woodward set to music the words of author Alasdair Gray..
Like their stage persona the Lanakshire 4-piece quietly work away, burrowing their way into the minds nd affections of the listener. Debut album Mend was the archetypal slow-burner, eventually appearing as Mojo’s #15 album of 2006. Their tense alt.rock, tinged with a folkish Scots accent, is augmented with electronic flourishes on latest release Prevention, for which rave reviews are flooding in. Tigerfest is pleased to welcome the critics’ choice to the Carnegie stage.
Abandinging their monicker ‘Hidd*ntracks’ following their Chemikal Underground debut, the French 6-piece are a beguiling proposition. Oulipo Souliva is an ‘E’-free album - no letter ‘e’s in the lyrics, and curiouser still, no ‘E’ chords in the music. Despite this the album received acclaim for its loungey tunes, jazzy interludes, post-rock style crescendos and dark brooding piano.
