Wed 13 May, Carnegie Hall James Yorkston / Lisa Knapp
7.30pm, £10
James Yorkston
Fife native and Fence Collective original, Yorkston though primarily a singer-songwriter, has equally worked on traditional Scottish folk songs, and worked with the likes of Portishead and Four Tet. Now a veteran of the scene, his acclaimed fifth album When the Haar Rolls in was released through Domino Records in autumn 2008. Guests included Norma & Mike Waterson. though in keeping with his eclectic reputation it came with a covers album featuring King Creosote, U.N.P.O.C. and Cathal Coughlan..
It’s apt that Yorkston is joined on this Scottish Arts Council-sponsored TuneUp tour by London-based folkie Lisa whose fresh approach to traditional music is building her a strong reputation on the UK folk scene; her modern re-workings of folk songs, alongside her own writing, appeal to both traditionalists and newcomers to folk music.
