record news: Hallam Foe, starring Jamie Bell and directed by David Mackenzie, will be in cinemas nationwide from Friday the 31st of August, with the soundtrack released on Domino Monday the 13th of August - which includes King Creosote, Sons And Daughters, Future Pilot AKA, Franz Ferdinand, James Yorkston And The Athletes, Bill Wells Trio, Cinema & Woodbine plus Clinic, Hood and Movietone. The follow up to Mother and the Addicts' debut album 'Take The Lovers Home Tonight' has now been completed after several months in the making. Produced by Paul Savage at Chem19 studios, 'Science Fiction Illustrated' is scheduled for release later in the year. Dundee label Pet Piranha have added 2 bands to their roster which already includes Alamos, Mercury Tilt Switch and Uncke Fritz. Le Reno Amps follow up their impressive self-titled debut album with their second offering 'So For Your Thrills...' which is scheduled for release on April 9th. The label have also signed up Die! Die! Die!, a punk rock band from Auckland, New Zealand, and release a UK Special Edition version of their eponymous debut album which features 10 tracks recorded in Chicago by recording legend Steve Albini. www.petpiranha.com Thomas Truax - madcap inventor, must-see liver performer, and occasional recording artist has announced that his upcoming third full-length album 'Why Dogs Howl At The Moon', which features robot drummer Sister Spinster, will be released on Edinburgh's SL Records. A single, 'Have We Been Left Behind', precedes this. www.thomastruax.com Calvin Harris, the Dumfries-based producer, will have his releases his second 10" single 'Vegas', with a tour with Faithless in March and his debut album 'I Created Disco' due out in the summer. He has also been approached to write for Kylie Minogue's next release, following, we're told, the Aussie songstress hearing his tunes on myspace. Glasgow act Trap6 have signed to Hungry Kid records - and will release a single, 'The Cycle', on March 19th The Leg - a band inculding members of Khaya and Saint Jude’s Infirmary - release a 12", entitled '8 songs by the leg(a musical tribute to the forest of dean)'’on 12" clear vinyl. The Saints Are Coming - a Skids Best of album, and Masquerade Masquerade - The Skids Live - will be launched by vocalist Richard Jobson, now better known as a successful film director, at Dunfermline's Glen Pavilion on the 23rd February. Local act The Scottish Enlightenment, apart from playing a couple of Adamson/Jobson-penned covers, will be launching debut single 'Eyes' on the night, and premiering their video, directed by local talent Greg Bell. Former Jesus and Mary Chain members Jim and William Reid, plus Ben Lurie, have got together to back up William’s sister Linda, vocalist with Sister Vanilla. The band release debut album Little Pop Rock - on Chemikal Underground, on March 19th. And another pop luminary, former Fire Engine Davy Henderson, releases a single - 'Full Penetration' / 'Midnight BoyCow' - under the name The Sexual Objects. The Creeping Bent 7" single appears on Creeping Bent on February 12th. The label also release a split single of Found and How To Swim on January 29th. The Primary 5 - Ryan Currie and former Soup Dragon Paul Quinn - release single 'Make Believe' on January 29th and their album Go on March 5th, both on Re-Action Recordings Ltd. 1990s have announced details of their next single - 'See You At The Lights' will be released on March 5, with their Bernard Butler-produced debut album to follow at the start of the summer. The Revolting Cocks album 'Cocktail Mixxx', features re-mixes of tracks that first appeared on the 'Cocked & Loaded' record. The band were formed in the 80s in the USA by Ministry’s Al Jourgensen who was later joined by exiled former Finitribe member Chris Connelly and the band had a minor hit with a cover of fellow Scot Rod Stewart’s ‘Do You Think I’m Sexy?’ Connelly also has a solo album, “the episodes”, out in January 2007 on a new label, Durtro/Jnana. Future Pilot AKA release 4th album 'Secrets From The Clockhouse' on Creeping Bent in January. The 16 tracks include collaborations and appearances from members of The Go Betweens, Sonic Youth, Belle & Sebastian, Can, Stooges, Fire Engines, Concerto Caledonia, Karine Polwart and Alisdair Gray Biffy Clyro release a christmas single - well, the download-only ‘Semi-Mental’ will hit (digital) shops on 25 December 2006 The View are set to release their new single 'Same Jeans' on January 15. Aereogramme have returned to their first (ok, second) home, Chemikal Underground, and are to release their third album on January 30th - entitled “My Heart Has A Wish That You Would Not Go. Mogwai’s Rock Action label is to launch a singles club - as they say, in the tradition of the likes of Subpop. The first release will be a 7” by Glasgow-based veteran hardcore supergroup Desalvo. Scots-born folk legend Bert Jansch has spoken to US mag Billboard, about his 23rd album The Black Swa , a 12-tracker which has taken 3 years to complete and which includes a collaboration with Beth Orton. "Since it's my album, I did most of the writing... she did introduce me to the song 'Katie Cruel' though. I really think that one gels well." Jansch also collaborates with Devendra Banhart, who he met at All Tomorrow's Parties, and Philidelphia group Espers. Following her near-miss at this year's Mercury Awards, Isobel Campbell is set to release a solo (i.e. without Mark Lanegan) album. 'Milkwhite Sheets' is out on October 23. It's the follow-up to the Mercury short-listed 'Ballad Of The Broken Seas', which she recorded with Lanegan. Former Josef K and Orange Juice guitarist Malcolm Ross is to release a compilation of his solo material on Re-Action Recordings in October. Speaking of which, Domino Records - home to Franz Ferdinand (you make the connection) are to release Entomology, which collects a number of Josef K Postcard singles, B-sides, Peel Sessions (including their version of Alice Cooper’s ‘AppleBush’) and various album tracks including six from the ‘lost’ debut Sorry For Laughing. Mogwai are to contribute 2 tracks to the forthcoming Miami Vice film soundtrack (out 7th August). 'We’re No Here' and 'Auto Rock' - both from the recently released monster 5th album Mr Beast appear alongside the likes of Goldfrapp and Nina Simone. Dawn of the Replicants celebrate 10 years in showbiz, with the release of a singles CD on 18th September entitled Bust The Trunk, on SL Records. The 22 track album comes with a DVD featuring videos, interviews and live footage from the past decade. James Yorkston releases an album, The Year of The Leopard, on Domino Records on September 25th. THe 10 tracks are produced by Paul Webb & Phil Brown, who worked on Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden, and Beth Gibbons (Portishead)'s album Out Of Season. The band formerly known as The Athletes aagain provide backing, and HMS Ginafore crops up on guest vocals. Belle & Sebastian's forthcoming single 'White Collar Boy' - out on Rough Trade on June 26th - features a version of Rod Stewart's 1983 #1 hit 'Baby Jane' on the B-side. The track apears only on the 7" - the CD single features new tracks 'Long Black Scarf' and 'Heaven In The Afternoon', while the DVD has the 'White Collar Boy' video and a live performance of 'Sukie In The Graveyard'. More Mary Chain news (see below) - Jim Reid, former Mary Chain mainman, returns as Freeheat along with fellow JAMC man Ben Lurie to release a single, 'Down', which trails an album Back onThe Water to appear later in the summer on Planting Seeds Records. Also in the band are Romi Mori (formerly of the Gun Club) and drummer Nick Sanderson, from Earl Brutus, making the lineup something of an indie supergroup. Rhino Records are to re-release five classic albums from The Jesus And Mary Chain on July 11. Mogwai will release the “Travel Is Dangerous” EP (12” and CD on PIAS, 26th June). Also on the single - reworkings of 2 tracks from album Mr Beast, an Acid Casuals mix of ‘Friend of The Night’ and Error’s version of ‘Auto Rock’. Two tracks recorded live in Tokyoround off the EP - ‘Like Herod” and new end of set favourite ‘We’re No Here’. Mouse Eat Mouse will finally release their long-awaited debut album 'Mair Licht!' on Hackpen Records, in July. The band, from the same town as Biffy Cyro, are also known as being one part of Marmaduke Duke Following being dropped by Alan McGee's Poptones label, The Cosmic Rough Riders have signed to Korova Records. The label, original home to Echo and the Bunnymen and now part of the Warner Bros empire, has offered the band a 5-album deal after boss Nick Stewart heard their self-financed new album recordings. Snow Patrol have revealed details of their new album 'Eyes Open' which is out May 1 It will be released in two formats: a standard CD with two bonus tracks, plus a special edition with a DVD of extras. Tracklisting: 'You're All I Have' will be released as a single on April 24. Cocteau Twins, the legendary Grangemouth shoegazers, release 2 albums, entitled Lullabies To Violaine, in mid-March. Franz Ferdinand's new single, relesed on March 27th, is a double-A side, 'The Fallen' / 'L Wells' to be released on 2 x 7"s and CD. The Delgados have acquired the rights to the seven sessions that they recoprded for John Peel over the past 10 years, and are set to compile them into what they describe as "a 28-track monster". Also on SL, on 13th February, is Dawn of the Replicants' 5th album - though Fangs is their first for the label. Mogwai release their album Mr Beast on 6th March, preceded by a single 'Friend of the Night' on January 30th. Boards of Canada release a new album on October 17th - 'The Campfire Headphase' will be released on Warp. Eugene Kelly has a new album coming out on September 26th - ’Man Alive’ is through Rev-Ola. The Beta Band are set to release a career retrospective compilation. ’Music: The Best Of The Beta Band’ will also feature tracks from one of their final shows in London. Belle and Sebastian are set to release a compilation of all their Jeepster singles/EP tracks - 'Push Barman To Open Old Wounds' will come out on May 23rd. Sons and Daughters have announced that their debut album (if Love the Cup was a maxi-EP) The Repulsion Box has 10 tracks icluding the single Dance Me In and comes out on Domino on the 6th June. Macrocosmica's self-released 3rd album Farewell to Earth is out on May 23rd. Malcolm Middleton releases his second solo album 'Into The Woods' on June 13th. It features collaborations with Delgado Paul Savage, Stuart Braithwaite and Barry Burns out of Mogwai, and his old mucker in Arab Strap, Aidan Moffat.
